Walk off the Weight, Baby.

By, Sonja Stewart

Or should I say, walk the baby weight off?

No matter.

People have been asking me how I lost the baby weight. Well, that’s not exactly true. No one has asked me how I lost the baby weight. But I wanted to share a little trick that made it a whole lot easier since I know a ton of moms who struggle with losing the weight post baby.

About a couple months ago I went over to my skinny sister in law’s house. She had a nine month old at the time, and I was sharing with her how difficult it was for me to lose the baby weight, blah blah blah…exercise is hard…yadda yadda yadda…especially since I moved from sunny southern California to the rainy pacific northwest and I can’t go out and you get the picture.

Well, my adorable sister in law, (who went from a size 11 to a size zero…I kid you not) was generous enough to give me a dvd that helped her drop twenty pounds after baby.

Twenty pounds.

It is a walking dvd. But don’t let that fool you. This is one kick butt walking program, that I will warn those of you who don’t walk rigorously to start off easy. You do it in the comfort of your own living room, and you don’t need much space at all. Throw out the treadmill and get the dvd. By the end of the 45 minute session, you’ve walked four miles and burned off a meal, easily. I am ten pounds lighter than I was before I had my two year old, and I know if I just cut back my calories a teensy tiny bit more, (i.e. stop baking cookies,) I’d be able to get below my high school weight. Hey, it’s doable. Wanda, my sis-in-law is my inspiration.

Leslie Sansone eases you into the workout, smiling, giggling, joking, and then she drop kicks you into the boosted walking intervals. Boosted walking is another word for jogging. Think of the eighties movie Flashdance and you’ll get the picture. I actually imagine I’m whatever her name is from the movie and rock out to the dvd. I am a rock star in my own mind after all.

After the whammy bar finishes wailing hard in the background, I usually have finished my workout and am ready to face the day. I love this dvd because it has the music only option. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Leslie, but after a while, I like to tune her voice out and drift off in my own Sonja world…which has lots of wailing guitar riffs and sweat bands on the ankles.

I rock.

No she is not paying me. I’ve never met the woman. But her DVD’s are radical.
