Book Recommendations For Infertility
Posted on February 24, 2008 and filed under Infertility ResourcesSince I have begun this journey, recommendations have been presented to me like a bullets aimed at a firing squad. (I am sure you can relate.) I appreciate all the care behind the recommendations, I do……however sometimes recommendations are not the most helpful thing, just a listening ear and a little empathy is.
So with that said, I have reviewed the many recommendations (well most of them) I have received and come up with a list of the most helpful books that have come from these recommendations. You may not want recommendations right now, but if you do, you can rest assured these are from people who have walked the infertilty road. Even though they are not a “live person,” I believe these books will offer you the listening ear and empathy, as well as direction you are looking for..they have for me.
**I have found most of these books at my local library**
“The Infertility Companion” by - Sandra L. Glahn:
This book goes over the different choices we have in regards to medical assistance with infertility, support for keeping your marriage healthy when faced with the stress of infertility, and discussion questions to increase the impact of this book.
Infertility: Finding God’s Peace in the Journey” by Lois Flowers:
This one is out of print - however you can still order it on Amazon and through other online sources. This can also be done as a study individually or with a group of woman. It answers many questions about infertility, IVF and other paths that can be taken in this journey. I have heard this is the “best” book to read for infertility.
Sweet Grapes: How to Stop Being Infertile and Start Living Again - Jean W. Carter:
This is a good book if you are at the point where you are battling, or considering the idea of deciding not to try for children any longer.
Empty Womb, Aching Heart: Hope and Help For Those Struggling With Infertility - Marlo Schalesky:
This book gives short stories from those who have struggled with infertility, and offers hope for all situations.
Perfect Balance For Infertility (due for release in April of 2008)- Robert Green, MD FACOG, Medical Director, SIRM Northern California.
This books provides valuable advice for women on things that they can do to optimize their outcome without treatment. The Dr./Author is wonderful as well as the book. He also has other books: Perfect Hormone Balance for Pregnancy and Happy Baby, Healthy Mom Pregnancy Journal. (This book was recommended by woman who sees this Dr. as her specialist and vouches for his abilities first hand).
How To Be a Successful Fertility Patient - Peggy Robin:
This book is a helpful medical guide, in easy-to-read language, to help you be an educated fertility patient. This can help you make more informed decisions, as well as work with your Dr. more successfully (on your individual journey).
